Dispatch from the Phone: Photo Of The Day — “Lady KimChi”

(December 25th, 2010)

Wife found a great bakery online, and decided we should go get cakes from there instead of baking for Christmas dinner at the in-laws. Great idea.

Lady making Kimchi at Super H Mart.

I know I have heard about this place, but never had the chance to visit. Boy, did I miss out big time.

Super H Mart. Its like a mini Korean town in there.

The place is huge, with a real 21st century Korean bakery, boutique, electronic housewares store, herbal shop, Korean make up, jewelry store, fresh seafood, and most importantly, a real food court featuring at least 6 Korean food stores.

The grocery section is so organized it makes Whole Foods look like a ghetto.

Only had a few minutes, but I know where I am spending my next several weekends at.

[Jazz: In Photos] Anat Cohen at Wortham Center

(December 4th, 2010)

A relatively short ‘essay’ of Jazz Clarinetist Anat Cohen at the Wortham Center. Did not know it was one long set, instead of 2 shorts with intermission. Missed shoting from backstage. Next time.

Dispatch from the Phone: Photo Of The Day — “Antioch Missionary Baptist Church”

(December 4th)

Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.

One of the oldest church in Houston. Built in 1866 (144 years now), months after June 19th, 1865.

Surrounded by high-rised buildings and topped with a huge “Jesus Saves” neon sign. One can’t help but be reminded of that small diner in “Batteries Not Included”.

Dispatch from the Phone: Photo Of The Day — “@earlkabong”

(December 7th, 2010)

This is Joe Rhodes, aka @earlkabong (on twitter).

He rolled into Houston and decided he wanted to hang with me. Obviously a man with a suspected sense of courage. Only other person braver is my wife.

Who is he, you ask? And why should you care, you wonder?

1) He drives the Traipsathon
2) He specializes in what he does
3) He is the nephew of Marjorie Nugent, who was murdered by her gay lover, Bernhardt “Bernie” Tiede, in the town of Carthage TX back in Nov 1996. This story will be made into a movie staring Jack Black,  Shirley MacLaine and Matthew McConaughey. (He will also have a cameo in the movie as his dad. He recounts his time at the set here).
4)  Elizabeth Hurley once made Shepard’s Pie for him in her apartment

So go read about him.  Subscribe to his blog and follow him on twitter.

Life as you know it will never be the same. Again. You have been alerted.
